• Nice to meet you!

I’m Darci, and I am a self-taught artist from Zanesville, OH. I have always been into animals, especially cats! I drew all the time growing up, and I was rarely seen without a pencil in hand. I was obsessed with drawing cats from the children’s book Warrior Cats by Erin Hunter (I was only in 4th grade when I started!).

I just never stopped drawing cats! It then expanded into all kinds of other animals.

I can often be found reading a book, playing my clarinet, and spending time with my husband and our 3 cats.

How It Started

  • I actually am a 2020 Muskingum University alum in Music Education, where I took my first real art class for a general education course. Unfortunately, I only got to go to a few classes before 2020 was… well, 2020.

Through college, and when I was a band director, I actually didn’t draw or paint much, and I missed it dearly.

After I left teaching in 2023, I began to dive into art again, and went right back to my roots - cats. In March of 2025, I approached Erica at The Chatty Cat Cafe to see if we could partner together: I would donate cat portraits to all of the yearly adoptees, and they would let me send my art through their business. They said yes, and thus, Fur-Ever Pet Portraits by Darci was born.

How It's Going

  • Making art into a job is a huge privilege, but also a lot of work! I currently work a full-time job, and fit my art business in my free time. I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband who helps me run my business (you see his face a lot at in-person markets!), and friends who don’t mind stepping in to help me.

I am constantly working on improving my skills as an artist, and the quality of my work. I joined Jill Beebe’s class at Julie’s Artery and have been having so much fun! My work has drastically improved with their expertise and knowledge.

My business is steadily growing, and I am so grateful and thankful for everyone who supports me, whether it is a commission or a “like” on social media!

Thank you for checking me out, and I hope to hear from you, or see you in person at my upcoming events!
